Big mistake. It's nothing more than Vaseline. It may work for some people, and that's fine, but it clogged my tattoo all up. I stopped using it yesterday because I had a red ring all about my tat and it was all bumpy. My tattoo had been so clogged it wasn't breathing, therefore it wasn't "weeping" and none of the excess ink was coming out. All this + super-sensitive skin = IRRITATION! I didn't put a lot on, either. Just a very thin coating.
Today, luckily, my tattoo is already "weeping" and I have excess ink bits all around it. I went back to using Tattoo Goo, which I used on all my other tats with no problems. So if you have sensitive skin you might want to pass up the Aquaphor if you get a tattoo.

What does Jean Harlow have to do with all of this? My tattoo is a Jean Harlow tribute (NOT a portrait!!!) I don't like very much showing my tats online. They are all badass, but, I dunno....it's too "personal" I think. I save that stuff for the FB! :)
I can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteI don't care what anyone says about tattoo healing, I use Burt's Bees Hand Salve and it's perfect for my sensitive skin, plus no petroleum jelly products to clog it up. I started using it after I was given a product called "Tattoo Goo" after one tattoo. I read the ingredients and realized it was mostly the same thing as the Burt's Bees. Actually it's closer to Burt's Bees Res-Q Ointment but I have a harder time finding that, plus the salve comes in a big ol' can. :)
ohhhh...thank goodness its healing properly!!
ReplyDeleteI've been using Lush's Ultrabalm on my latest addition to my sleeve, and I've found it really good, I prefer it so far to everything else I've tried. I've been curious about trying Tattoo Goo for a while, I might try that in the future too...
ReplyDeleteI use http://aftercare.h2ocean.com/.
ReplyDeleteI think Jean is my soul sister so anyone who gets a JH-inspired tatt is my new best friend;). I'm glad the tattoo is reacting how it should since you stopped using the yukky stuff - I would give my right tit to see how it looks in a couple of weeks! xo
ReplyDeleteI use plain unscented lotion, cuz i am am hardcore an shit.
ReplyDeleteThere's so much conflicting informaion on tattoo healing products. After my first tattoo I was advised to use heammorhoid cream on it, supposedly to stop it swelling, which it didn't anyway! I hate all the oily petroleum products too, I don't see how it's a good idea to keep what is essentially a wound wet the whole time.
ReplyDeleteOn fresh tattoos I use regular moisturiser every few hours, usually a light one with cocoa butter, and I let the tattoo dry in between applications so that it can flake naturally as it heals. I've been doing this for years and my tatts all still look great :)
There is really no one right way or wrong way to heal your tattoo! I know somepeople who swear by keeping it DRY the entire time (using nothing!) I guess it just really depends on your skin. Petroleum stuff gave me acne. Tattoo Goo is the only thing that works for me, but a lot of people think it's a "scam." *eye roll*
