The Badass 28

In my late-night Internet travels last night I kept coming across this photo with the explanation "Does anyone know the story behind this?" I'm sure a majority of the people know it's photoshop, but this is the source and the story behind it if you ever wondered....

The "Badass 28" are actually 1928 WAMPAS Baby Stars in a promotional photo. This is only 8 of the 13, which included Lupe Velez! In the photo above I can definitely identify Gwen Lee (W), Molly O'Day (first A), Sue Carol (P), and Audrey Ferris (28). Here are more photos of the ladies:

And each lady individually....

There you have it. Not as "badass" as it seems. I have no clue who photoshopped it, though. Lol.

Asphalt (1929)

I watched the German silent film ASPHALT last night and I gotta say -- Betty Amann was like nothing I've ever seen on screen. NOTHING.

She was the single embodiment of early Joan Crawford, Clara Bow, and Louise Brooks. Why Betty did not play Lulu instead for the dreadful Louise Brooks is beyond me. She was so striking I could not take my eyes off her.

The film is actually pretty silly. There's far too much melodrama for the situations. And it's somewhat annoying when Betty's character pleads Gustav Frolich's character to be with her and when he finally proposes marriage she explodes with anger and tries to blow him off. The characters just seem to get mad for no reason and it's over the top. Other than that, the actors were good and the cinematography was good and VERY GERMAN! Great use of shadows, silhouettes, and camera angles.

But Betty Amann! Anyone can fall for her. Although she had some Louise Brooks-esque qualities, Betty could act. But she did not over-do it like Clara Bow tended to do sometimes. Betty was like a perfect medium. She was very expressive, yet natural. She looked much like Joan, Clara, and Louise all in one person. She was mesmerizing.

You can watch ASPHALT here!

Pretty Dresses

I'm sorry, I don't know where some of these came from (a few are from Etsy) as I got most of them from FB. If they are from your shop/website, please let me know and I will be more than happy to link!!

Y U NO FUNNY?

I made this for my Facebook because I was bored:

LOL. Hey, it made me laugh! Hahaha. My artistry in Paint is funniest!

So Lisa Freemont Street posts a rebuttal on my page:

HAHAHA. I'm sitting here dying!

Reading PA WW2 Weekend

It seems like I make it to Reading WW2 Weekend every other year -- lol. Went in 2008, 2010, and yesterday. Because of Reading's strict rules for German soldiers, a LOT of them have bailed. Where the Germans once were was an empty field. There were a few there, but it seemed dead compared to 2010. I still had some fun. I took lots of pics and I looked rather bangin', if I say so myself.

LULZ

Nose Art

I was told she was more vintage than me...lol

It was a fun afternoon with friends and family. I didn't buy much. I'm not a re-enactor so I don't need any of that stuff and I don't wear real vintage clothing and I can make the equivalent for much less...but I LOVE vintage magazines! Yeay!! I have a collections of over 200 spanning 1912 to 1962! I found a stand that sold magazines for resonable prices so I scooped up a few:

Secrets (Nov 1944), McCall's (Sept 1944, Modern Romances (Sept 1942)

I decided to wear pants to the event for something different! I put on a poofy 1940s cotton dress (that I made) and I felt silly in it -- lol. So I pulled out these old handmade late 1930s trousers and wore them with my 1944 handmade blouse. Much better. Everyone else had on a dress, stockings, and unsensible shoes ;) Also, I got called "a rockabilly" -- Lulz. I have rockabilly elements to my style, but I thought that was kind of cute/amusing ;)

And that was it!

Making 2020 Interesting

I know this used to be a sewing blog, but I have only sewn two thing in two years. I plan to start doing in again in the upcoming months as...
