Dress #8 -- Gertie's "Plaid Secretary Dress" (2016)

From her newest book Gertie's Ultimate Dress Book:

I decided my favorite dress was the "Plaid Secretary Dress" and I had JUST the fabric in my stash for it. So I made it this weekend. I made a size 10 -- which this particular pattern in this particular size fits true to size (40 bust and 32 waist). I've heard some of the pieces are off, but I can't speak for those just yet.

This dress was so easy and basic I didn't even use the instructions. I didn't line it, either. It skims me just perfect without all that extra bulk. A slip works good enough. I made my own facing for the collar. I like how Gertie (or whomever designs these patterns) gets the skirt shape JUST RIGHT. The pencil skirt shape in her first book was ON POINT also.

As for the actual book, it is her best. I am not an obnoxious Gertie fangirl in any sense of the word, lol, but she looks great in the book and all the dresses look much better than her first one. She looks happier, healthier, and more confident. I haven't actually read it yet, so I can't comment on if her writing has improved.

This dress ranks as one of my favorites. I look good in it and I feel good in it! 10/10 will make again :)

  1. This is a great make! It's good to read that Gerties newest book has improved compared to her first. I was quite disappointed with the first book.
